Testimonials

At HMT Care, every story matters. Since 2001, we have been dedicated to providing specialist, person-centred care for individuals living with Huntington’s Disease and other acquired neurological disabilities. Our warm, homely environments in Herne Bay are supported by highly skilled staff who understand the importance of dignity, choice, and community. The experiences shared below are from residents and families who have witnessed first-hand the compassion, expertise, and commitment that define our care.

Richard

Richard initially had a respite stay at Orchard House in 2023, for six weeks. Following this stay Richard made the decision to move to Orchard House permanently in July 2024.

In Richards own words:

"The reason I chose Orchard House is I really like the surroundings and my room, it is fit for purpose and meets my needs. The staff bend over backwards and they are also engaging and talk to you. I really like the food, you are offered what it is you like and have a good relationship with the cook, who I talk to most days. I now have a Sara Steady and it really has had a positive impact on my life"

Sharleen

Sharleen

Sharleen has lived at Albany Drive for 3 years, having moved from a local Nursing home.

In Sharleen's own words:

"I like living at Albany Drive as I am able to go out for walks and attend the local gym. I am supported by a Physical Therapist each week who has supported me to be more confident in my walking and physical wellbeing. I also enjoy attending the Coffee morning each week and volunteer for a local charity by sorting the donations prior to them going their charity shop in Henre Bay.

All the staff are pleasant and supportive and respect my room and home.

With the support of the Deputy Manager I attended a local slimming club on a 12 week programme and have lost weight, which has improved my mobility and physical health.
The menu's are well organised and the food is good."

Moira Kerr-Clemenson

"I find the support group, which meets monthly, really helpful. It enables all of us to share our experiences and gives us a sense of going through it together.
Those of us who have lived with Huntington’s Disease, as I did with my first husband and now my son, are able to speak freely, offer first-hand advice and share information about how we got financial support as well as additional health and care support.
We discuss how HD impacts not just the individual, but also the families, how it progresses, and how we try to cope. I have made friends through this group, and it’s not all serious - we are also able to have a laugh and let off steam.
Linda (owner) and Julie (Physical Therapist) attend and give advice and help and they also keep us informed of what is going on at HMT Care regarding activities, support for the residents etc.
The group is open to anyone with HD in the family, including those who access respite care; not just the family and friends of the longer term residents HMT Care directly support. It is a lifeline when you’re feeling down and life is tough.”
